Erik Barrios-Recendez
The Spring of 2024, I was part of the fifth cohort of The Ellsworth Artist in Residence program at Art Share L.A., an intensive three-month experience. During this time, I chose to explore a series that I described as a queer Chicanx primordial soup. This subject matter allowed me to delve into my narrative and the complex themes that shape my identity. My approach was intentionally non-linear, reflecting my transformative journey. These artworks symbolize the transitional phase of a butterfly in its chrysalis—representing the gooey essence that harbors the butterfly's potential and DNA.
